None of his business? Cardoso will NOT watch Soweto derby but focus on ‘important’ game

While Millions in South Africa and around the World at large will be keenly following the proceedings at the FNB Stadium between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, one person will be preparing his team for an important assignment.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso will not watch the highly anticipated Soweto derby, as hours later, the defending champions will be playing Sekhukhune United at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Masandawana and Pirates are currently locked on 38 points each from 17 outings in the South African top tier, while the Glamour Boys are on 30, having played a game less. Whichever the outcome, any result will work in the Brazilians’ favour, if they get maximum points a day later.

This explains why coach Cardoso is working hard to ensure no points are dropped against Babina Noko, who have a quality squad, full of experienced players.

Why Cardoso will not watch Soweto derby

“Everybody has to play, everybody, of course, at the end of the championship, maybe we will see the mathematics,” he said in his pre-match interview with the media.

“Look, as many points are lost from our opponents, the best, for sure. The other ones are asking us to also lose points. So, I don’t really know, I think the most important for us is that on Sunday we will play Sekhukhune. That is the focus that we are going to have. I will not have time on that [match].

“On the day before the match, I will have so many things to do, that I will not be really looking that match,” Cardoso concluded.
