Nigeria international Stanley Nwabali insists Bafana Bafana international and captain Ronwen Williams is the best goalkeeper in the world.

The Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper was recently nominated for the prestigious Ballon d’Or's  Yashin Award after his achievement at both the club and international level in the 2023/24 season.

Nwabali is adamant the 32-year-old is not only the best in Mzansi, but the world at large.

“I really see Ronwen Williams and not because we are in the same league,” the Chippa United goalkeeper told iDiski Times.

“But I really see him as the best goalkeeper in the world. He really inspires me with how he plays, and I’m not surprised to see him on the list of nominees for the best goalkeeper in the world.

“Ronwen Williams did really well and not only at the AFCON but at club level as well.”

How Nwabali feels after failing to join Kaizer Chiefs

The 27-year-old Super Eagles keeper was tipped to leave the Chilli Boys for top teams, including Kaizer Chiefs, but the move did not materialise.

However, the custodian, in his recent interview, took that as a challenge to maintain his standard, “I wouldn’t say I was really affected by what happened after last season and after the Afcon because it’s football,” he stated

“Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t work but as a footballer, one thing is for sure is deals come and deals also crash. But one thing I know is that even with all this happening you don’t have to lose your value as a soccer player.

“With everything that happened, I even felt like I was going to leave the club but I’m still with the club so it doesn’t change anything,” Nwabali concluded.
