Thembinkosi Lorch has been unveiled by Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club after sealing a six-month loan deal from Mamelodi Sundowns.
The midfielder reunited with coach Rulani Mokwena in Morocco after the tactician had initially lured him to Sundowns from Orlando Pirates in January 2024.
Lorch’s time at Sundowns has been a frustrating one, struggling for game time despite his big reputation, and found it hard to dislodge the other midfielders at the club.
The 31-year-old managed only seven appearances this season and was looking for a way out when the midseason transfer window opened.
Will Lorch succeed at Wydad?
Lorch was heavily linked with Kaizer Chiefs in January with Amakhosi looking for an attacking midfielder but the move fell through and he was offered to Wydad instead.
With Mokwena a big fan of the player, it did not take long for the Moroccan club to make a decision and the Wydad hierarchy sanctioned the deal which will see the player sign a six-month loan deal.
Lorch becomes the eighth midseason signing for Wydad, who have released 10 players, and he links up with former Sundowns forward Cassius Mailula, who is at the club on a season-long loan from MLS club FC Toronto.
The midfielder will be hoping to kickstart his career under a coach who knows him too well, having worked with him at both Sundowns and Pirates.
