Orlando Pirates legend Benedict ‘Tso' Vilakazi insists he was happy to see Thembinkosi Lorch getting his chance in Mamelodi Sundowns' 1-0 loss against Raja Casablanca in Group B of the Caf Champions League outing.
The defending Premier Soccer League champions played their Botola Pro League counterparts on Saturday night. It was a controversial game that ended with three red cards – two for Masandawana and one for their hosts.
Lorch was introduced in the second half, and went on to miss a massive chance to ensure the game ended even. Vilakazi believes that was because of limited game time owing to his injuries. In the ongoing campaign, Nyoso has played just six matches for the Brazilians.
Vilakazi now explains why seeing Lorch on the pitch alongside Tashreeq Matthews was pleasing.
Lorch is a bit rusty but…
“Like a supporter, a fan I was so happy to see them, especially Lorch after a long time of not seeing him,” the former Sea Robbers midfielder said in his interview with iDiski TV.
“But I saw him, he’s a bit rusty because a Lorch with that opportunity for me, that was a goal. But it’s good to see him back together with [Tashreeq] Matthews. Seeing them playing in the team, I think when they get time again the confidence will be back.
“If Lorch gets time again I think that body will come back, and they’ll deliver.”
Lorch might get another chance on Saturday when Sundowns play AS Maniema Union away. A win might put them top of the pool depending on the outcome between AS FAR Rabat and Raja Casablanca.
