Onyango – ‘We must lift the Betway Premiership’

Published on by

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango says lifting the Betway Premiership title is a must for his side despite strong challenge from rivals this season.

Masandawana are aiming for their eighth successive league title. They are in the pole to win it as they are at the summit of the table with 55 points after 22 games.

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates have been pushing the Brazilians hard this season, collecting 46 points in 20 matches so far under the leadership of the outgoing Jose Riveiro.

Aiming to maintain their lead on top, Sundowns face Richards Bay on Wednesday, 30 April at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

Having secured their spot in the CAF Champions League final with a 1-1 draw against Al Ahly in the semi-final second leg in Cairo on Friday, Miguel Cardoso’s side is in high spirits.

Onyango says it won’t be an easy task to collect desired results in the remaining games, however, they are aiming to defend the trophy.

ONYANGO ON DEFENDING THE BETWAY PREMIERSHIP TITLE

“Of course, it's not an easy task for the boys. We take every game the way it comes. Right now we are focusing on the Betway Premiership because we must lift the trophy,” Onyango said via the Sundowns media department as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

“When it's time for the Champions League, we will also switch focus to the Champions League. Every game is a final for us and we hope that we win our remaining games.

“Very difficult game, especially because we were playing in the Champions League. We have to switch our focus to the Richards Bay.

“They are a hard running team. They are fighting for their lives and we know that. We have the quality and we must stay focused as much as possible and get the results in our remaining games.”
