Orlando Pirates have confirmed the departure of defender Sandile Mthethwa and midfielder Katlego Otladisa ahead of the January transfer window.
Mthethwa has been on the periphery at Pirates, having fallen down the pecking order, with his last appearance coming in April during a 4-0 win over Royal AM
With Olisa Ndah, Thabiso Sesane, Nkoninathi Sibisi, Thapelo Xoki and Innocent Maela all ahead of him, the defender found it difficult to get regular game time at Pirates, for who he made 28 appearances for, since joining in 2016 from the KZN Academy.
The lanky defender also spent stints on loan at Richards Bay and Chippa United but has ultimately decided to move on in search of minutes.
Why are the two players leaving?
“Both parties have agreed for the amicable separation to allow him to move to a club of his choice,” read a statement on the Pirates website over the defender’s departure.
“At 27 years old, Mthethwa is entering his prime and whilst the technical team wanted him to stay – the guarantee of regular football was not possible.”
Unconfirmed reports claim Mthethwa is set to join AmaZulu after agreeing terms with the side.
Meanwhile, another departing player whose destination is known is Otladisa who is set to join Sekhukhune United on a loan deal until the end of the season.
