Orlando Pirates Transfer News: ‘Interesting move’ lauded since it shows PSL’s level

Orlando Pirates strengthened their attacking department with the signing of Mohau Nkota.

The Bafana Bafana winger left the Sea Robbers at the beginning of the 2024/25 season after one season with the senior team. However, he struggled for consistency at Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq owing to injuries.

Nkota felt playing for Pirates, on loan until the end of the season, will help him get back to his best. In his debut season abroad, he managed to make 22 appearances across all competitions, with a return of two goals and three assists.

Former Bucs winger Tlou Segolela has opined why Nkota’s Mzansi return is massive for the Premier Soccer League, and the positive image it creates.

Nkota’s move shows where PSL is heading

“For me it’s one of those very interesting moves. It also shows where South African football is moving, the standard of our football has grown. They (Pirates) obviously know the quality of the boy but what is happening with this move,” Segolela told to KickOff.

“You can tell it’s all about the boy getting enough game-time to get to the level that he wants and now it’s very interesting for him, because The Buccaneers will be in the CAF Champions League, we also need his ability for us to compete, so that we reach the knockouts and obviously go to the final.

“Look, whether they like it or not, football is about pressure, you like it or not. Unfortunately you’re the one who set the standard, that this is the level you need to be,” Segolela concluded when asked whether Nkota’s signing will pile pressure on Bucs to successfully defend their PSL title.
