Orlando Pirates land nightmare MTN8 semi-final draw

Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates will face off in the MTN8 semi-final following the draw conducted on Sunday.

Pirates and Sundowns made it to the semi-final following comprehensive wins against Polokwane City and Richards Bay respectively.

Sundowns were the last to book their ticket when they thrashed Richards Bay 4-0 on Sunday to join the other three teams while Pirates were the first, having beaten Polokwane 2-0 on Saturday.

The two teams will renew their rivalry early in the season to contest for the first trophy of the campaign as Pirates look to win the title for a fourth year in a row while Sundowns, who last won it in 2021, seek to end their four-year wait.

Who will contest the other semi-final?

Meanwhile, Sekhukhune United will face off with Stellenbosch in the other semi-final with the first of the two-legged ties set between August 16 and 17.

Stellenbosch will get home advantage in the first leg while Pirates will also be at home in the first semi-final against Sundowns.

Stellies reached the final last season, having eliminated Sundowns in the semi-final, and will be looking to make it two years in a row and go one better by winning the trophy.

Meanwhile, Sekhukhune are at this stage for the first time but have a coach who knows how to win the MTN8 in Eric Tinkler, who will be hoping to use his experience to lead them to glory.
