Orlando Pirates have reportedly decided to retain midfielder Miguel Timm for another year which will keep him at the club up to June 2026.
Pirates extended the 32-year-old’s deal to June 2025 but have an option to stretch it by another year and have decided to exercise it as they view the player a key squad member even if he rarely plays.
The former Marumo Gallants midfielder has turned into a bit-part player in the last couple of seasons with his opportunities limited even further this term as he is yet to make a league appearance, having featured in just three matches, two in the CAF Champions League and one in the MTN8, both as a substitute.
However, the Buccaneers feel they need enough cover in central midfield for Thalente Mbatha and Makhehlene Makhaula and that is why a decision to retain Timm has been made.
Should Pirates hold onto Timm?
“They have more attacking midfielders and to have Timm in the squad is very important for them and that is why they have apparently taken up the option to keep him,” a source told Soccer Laduma.
“They have many games to play from this season until next season as they are in the group stages of the CAF Champions League and also playing in all the local tournaments. They need him to cover for Makhaula and Mbatha.”
Timm joined Pirates from Gallants in 2022 and became a key player for the club in the 2022-23 season but has seen his playing time significantly reduced especially after the arrival of Mbatha to the club from SuperSport United in January 2024.
