Sebelebele blow!

Orlando Pirates are likely to be without Kamogelo Sebelebele for Friday’s CAF Champions League second preliminary round second-leg encounter against African Stars of Namibia, with indications that the right-back could be sidelined for some time.

The 24-year-old has been unavailable since sustaining an injury during the MTN8 final against Mamelodi Sundowns earlier this month, with the Buccaneers still awaiting further clarity on his condition.

Indications from sources close to the situation are that Sebelebele could be out for a while, although the extent of the injury and his expected recovery period have yet to be officially confirmed. Pirates are expected to provide an update on the defender’s condition in due course.

Sebelebele sustained the injury during the first half of the MTN8 final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on October 10, when Pirates suffered a 2-0 defeat to Sundowns.

The former TS Galaxy player was replaced by Oswin Appollis at half-time and was later seen on crutches while collecting his runners-up medal, raising concerns about the severity of the setback.

Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou subsequently confirmed that Sebelebele would miss the club’s continental assignment against African Stars, while expressing hope that the injury would not prove too serious.

Sebelebele went on to miss the first leg against African Stars last Saturday, with Pirates now preparing for the return fixture on Friday.

The Buccaneers will be hoping to have clarity on the versatile player’s availability as they continue their continental campaign, with his recovery timeline expected to become clearer once the club provides a further medical update.

Pirates not fair to Pedersen

Former Orlando Pirates star Sifiso Myeni has made a plea to head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou and his technical team regarding Sebastian Pedersen, with the striker yet to enjoy an extended run of opportunities since his arrival.

Pedersen joined the Buccaneers from Norwegian outfit Sogndal at the start of the season, signing a two-year contract with an option to extend his stay by a further year. However, the 27-year-old has had limited involvement in matchday squads, raising questions about his role under Ouaddou.

Speaking on Omni Audio Africa, Myeni believes Pedersen deserves the same opportunities given to his fellow strikers.

“Orlando Pirates are not fair to Pedersen. Give the man a chance, guys. The way you’ve been giving the strikers a chance,” Myeni said.

“[Evidence] Makgopa, [Boitumelo] Radiopane, [Yanela] Mbuthuma, Pedersen also deserves the same chance that everyone is getting, guys.

“As Orlando Pirates supporters, we want to see more of him getting a chance so that we can judge him, because now a lot of people are judging him when we haven’t seen that much from him.

“Some have had five, six, seven, eight games. All of them have had a lot of games, but Pedersen’s games are very few, do you understand? So Orlando Pirates, can we see more of Pedersen.

“We know that you guys want to win, but us as fans, we would like to see more of Pedersen. We can’t sign a player and then not have a say. Let’s see him. Everyone has gotten a chance. So Orlando Pirates, please, we beg you, and I beg you personally, I want to see more of him,” they concluded.
