Orlando Pirates News Today: Bucs to Emulate Chiefs, Rele’s Time Up, Transfer Updates & more

Published on by

The latest from Orlando Pirates, in the last 24 hours including Bucs urged to emulate Kaizer Chiefs, ex-club’s striker ready for another challenge, Relebohile Mofokeng set for exit and more.

Orlando Pirates to emulate Chiefs?

Ode Fulutudilu has shared her views on whether Kaizer Chiefs Ladies’ establishment would force Orlando Pirates to form a women’s team.

According to Fulutudilu, Pirates will feel the heat now that Chiefs have made their move. She notes that the Buccaneers won’t want to be “left behind”, meaning the pressure is on them to respond.

However, to meet CAF’s stringent club licensing regulations, the Sea Robbers entered into a partnership with the University of Johannesburg [UJ] women’s team. This strategic move ensures their participation in continental competitions and compliance with a mandatory CAF directive requiring all participating clubs to have an active women’s side.

“I really hope it [formation of Chiefs Ladies] puts tremendous pressure on Pirates to not be left behind,” Fulutudilu told FARPost.

“Rivalry doesn’t just live on the men’s side. Orlando Pirates won’t want to be left behind in any space where Chiefs are gaining ground. If Pirates don’t move, it starts to look like they’re not fully committed to the future of the game. And in modern football, that matters.”

Mofokeng shows why he should be abroad

Bafana Bafana star Relebohile Mofokeng’s first break has been revealed while he negotiates his way through a World Cup debut appearance pregnant with overseas possibilities.

His club Orlando Pirates will again have to deal with all enquiries around the 21-year-old.

While that happens one of his amateur coaches has disclosed how Mofokeng ended up at Selebs Academy in Sharpeville.

“He came to us as a nine-year-old via his older cousin named Ntokozo, who is two years older than him, and had been with us,” says Mxolisi ‘Shambara’ Mqosini, who was Mofokeng’s coach at Academy.

“If you know how things work in the amateur ranks, Ntokozo just happened to tell me that his cousin is a hell of a good player, and I just thought he is just kidding as I told him to come with him the following week.

“The next week the kid named Relebohile arrives and scored three as a nine-year-old playing for the Under-11 team.

“He was attending a primary school in Vanderbijlpark at the time.

“He was small, but very clever in how he played, and all I needed to do was just guide him in coaching him so that he plays without fear.”

Ex-Bucs striker on the move

Former AmaZulu and Orlando Pirates striker Augustine Mulenga is reportedly on the move again after just one season with his latest club.

Zambian international Mulenga is said to be set to leave his current side, NAPSA Stars. The 36-year-old only joined NAPSA in his native Zambia in July last year after being released by AmaZulu.

Now, according to Zambian outlet Bola Yapazed, Mulenga will leave NAPSA following the expiry of his one-year contract with the club this month.

The report adds that the attacker has already posted a farewell message to his team-mates in their WhatsApp group.

It is also reported that Mulenga has not given any indication about his next move, although retirement is not among the options he is considering.
