Pirates star told to adjust when playing for Bafana

Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane has advised Oswin Appollis to ensure he plays to the strengths of the national team and not try to copy what he does at club level.

Appollis played on the right wing for Bafana in their 2-1 win over Guinea on Saturday but Mosimane appears not to have been impressed by the poisoning of the Pirates winger, going by what he told the media after the match.

“With Appollis when [Aubrey] Modiba comes there, he has to stay on the wing but Pirates doesn’t play that way. Appollis at Pirates plays inside,” he said.

“But this is the national team because he has to accommodate Modiba. So at Pirates, he plays inside because [Deon] Hotto is coming out or whoever plays as a left-back, but this is the national team.

“So he has to change and they must adjust. I need Appollis on the wing and he can come inside and sometimes [Kamogelo] Sebelebele must sit back,” he added.

Mosimane reserves praise for Sebelebele

Meanwhile, Mosimane has lauded Pirates right-back Kamogelo Sebelebele following his impressive display against Guinea.

Sebelebele won the race for the right-back spot ahead of Thabang Matuludi and Thapelo Morena and proved why he deserved the opportunity as he was named Man of the Match.

Mosimane was thrilled that he got exactly what he was looking for from Sebelebele, who repelled the Guinea wingers with his speed and defensive discipline.

“It’s very difficult we have Matuludi who is a top player also, but Mike has that speed, and Matuludi has a cross, but I didn’t need crosses. I’ve got Thapelo Maseko on that side, and what a team Guinea,” Mosimane told SABC Sport as per iDiski Times.

“I don’t understand this team has not been in the AFCON for some time, unbelievable team. I think we’re gonna see a lot in this group. I want to see Guinea against Kenya in Kenya what’s gonna happen? It’s a tough group,” added the Bafana Bafana coach.
