Appollis addresses his future at Bucs

Orlando Pirates star Oswin Appollis has addressed the rumours regarding a potential move to Europe, opening up about his future following an outstanding season with the Buccaneers.

Appollis joined Pirates ahead of the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League season from Polokwane City FC after establishing himself as one of the outstanding performers in the PSL in the past few seasons.

The Soweto giants beat fierce competition from rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and other clubs on the South African continent to sign the highly-rated winger.

After opting for a move to Pirates, Appollis hit the ground running, instantly becoming one of the key figures of the Sea Robbers squad under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou. The Cape Town-born winger played a major role in helping Pirates win a treble after lifting the MTN8, Carling Knockout Cup and Betway Premiership trophies last season.

“At the moment, I’m not focused on those kinds of things [transfer rumours]; my job is to play for Orlando Pirates, and I’m happy here,” Appollis told the media.

“So other things that have been in the media, I don’t take note of them. As I said, my job is to play for Pirates because I’m happy here,” he concluded.

Ouaddou on Pirates’ preparedness ahead of Milford outing

Abdeslam Ouaddou discussed the team’s preparations on Tuesday afternoon at the Rand Stadium, ahead of their Betway Premiership League season opener against Milford FC on Saturday.

Chaine opens up about relationship with supporters

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine has addressed questions over his somewhat tumultuous relationship with ama Bhakaniya supporters.

Reflecting on the turbulent incidents of last season when he was subjected to harsh booing from sections of the stadium, the recently crowned Betway Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season has admitted that he heeds the fans’ frustration.

“Yoh, I think for what we have achieved over the last couple of years, and for me personally, I need them for that,” Chaine said in a presser.

“I need Amabhakaniya for that for me to improve as a player,

“I would be lying if I said I don’t hear the criticism, or that I don’t take them to heart or I don’t care what they think. I can hear what they say, and some of them ba bua nnete (some of them are telling the truth) for me; it’s just to take it in good spirit and for me to improve.”

Sibisi adamant Bucs are ready to defend PSL

Orlando Pirates captain Nkosinathi Sibisi believes the Buccaneers are ready for the start of the new campaign.

The Buccaneers will begin the defence of their Betway Premiership title when they host newly promoted Milford FC at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday, with expectations high following last season’s success.  

“I think we, as players, are prepared. Pre-season has been quite short this time around, but I believe we’ve covered everything that needed to be covered,” he stated.

“The preparation matches weren’t really about the results. They were about finding the right combinations, seeing what works and what doesn’t, and continuing to improve while helping the new players settle into the squad.

“As I’ve said before, I think that process is going very well. The coach has also made it clear that we shouldn’t rush some of the players because it won’t always be the case that you have a Rele (Relebohile Mofokeng), a (Mbekezeli) Mbokazi, or a Mohau (Nkota) who immediately hit the ground running. Some players simply need time to adapt,” he concluded.
