This is what Pirates are missing!

Former Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng has scored on his first league start for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, as his side beat St. Truidense 3-0 on Wednesday.

Mofokeng netted his side’s third goal after 63 minutes, taking his tally to two goals in four Jupiler Pro League matches.

The Bafana Bafana attacker was handed his first start in the league by head coach David Hubert and repaid the faith with a strong showing. USG had opened the scoring via Louis Patris after 23 minutes, while captain Kevin Mac Allister made it 2-0 in the 55th minute.

Mofokeng scored after 63 minutes but was subbed shortly after, as Gilloise collected their third win in four games. USG moved into second place with 10 points, two behind leaders Charleroi, who have won all of their games so far.

Mbuthuma NOT overloading himself with pressure

Orlando Pirates striker Yanela Mbuthuma has made a bold claim that it’s not really difficult to be a striker because patience, not succumbing to pressure, and creating chances eventually lead to scoring.

The underfire striker finally got the monkey off his back by opening his goalscoring account for the season in the Buccaneers’ 4-0 crushing of newbies Kruger United at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday night.

“What I can say is that the game was very difficult, these people ran at us,” he told the Pirates media.

“What we planned was to score and win. We knew that they would not be better than us though they would come at us. We tried hard so that we score plenty of goals.

“The coach told us to be patient and we will get chances even if they come at us, we will get opportunities to score.

“I’m very happy for the support that I’ve been getting from the fans. It’s actually not that really hard to be a striker. You don’t need to overload yourself with pressure.

“As games go by, chances present themselves that’s why I was able to convert them today and I’m very happy.”

Timing right for Radiopane!

Former Orlando Pirates winger Dikgang Mabalane feels Boitumelo Radiopane is at the right age to start delivering for the Buccaneers.

Radiopane netted his second goal of the campaign in Pirates’ 4-0 victory over Kruger United in the Betway Premiership on Tuesday evening, already more than last season. In five appearances last season, Radiopane did not hit the back of the net.

Mabalane, popularly known as ‘Terminator’ during his playing, believes it’s the perfect time for Radiopane to start delivering for the Soweto giants.

“At 24, it’s the ideal age to be making a mark in a big club. He’s at the perfect age for a striker at a club like Pirates – not too young and not too old. The timing is perfect for him. He’s got the experience of being loaned out previously and I think it will do him good. It’s a platform for him.

“He’s been given an opportunity and it’s up to him if he grabs it with both hands. He’s got an instinct for goals. He is strong and I think he has got qualities of a striker. He needs to score one, two, three, four goals and then the confidence kicks in,” Mabalane told Soccer Laduma.

“Fortunately for him, he is at a club where he has good players around him. It’s always good for a striker to be in a team that scores goals and is competing in major competitions. Again, it’s going to be up to him. His presence must be felt inside the box. He’s got good touches and he is finisher more than anything.”
