Transfer boost for Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates have been heavily linked with defender Thabang Matuludi of Polokwane City for most of the transfer season but recent reports suggest Mamelodi Sundowns have also entered the fray.

On Thursday, KickOff reported that Sundowns have increased their offer for the in-demand right-back but now, Soccer Beat reports that the Brazilians are in talks with Deano van Rooyen who left Pirates last month.

If that turns out to be true, then Pirates could get a boost in the pursuit of Matuludi, whose club has not used him this season, amid the speculation linking him with a move away.

Nkota’s arrival adds to Ouaddou’s headache

Orlando Pirates brought back winger Mohau Nkota, who has rejoined the club on a season-long loan from Saudi club Al-Ettifaq, and while it beefs up the squad, it will give coach Abdeslam Ouaddou a good headache.

This is because Nkota is now the fourth left-footed winger at Pirates with Tshepang Moremi, Bohlale Ngwato and Kabelo Kgositsile the others.

With Ouaddou preferring inverted wingers, those four will be vying for a place on the right side of Pirates attack, and it will be interesting to see how the tactician utilises them through the season to ensure everyone gets game time.

Still, the positive is that it adds depth to the Pirates squad as they challenge in the league, MTN8, CAF Champions League, Carling Knockout and Nedbank Cup.

Former Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng is quickly becoming a fan favourite at Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise.

Mofokeng scored his second goal for his new club on Wednesday as Union Saint-Gilloise beat Sint-Truiden 3-0 to move to second position in Belgium’s top flight and the supporters were in awe of him.

The Bafana Bafana forward curled in beautifully from the box as his team secured the big win and after the game, supporters were all over him.

From fans chanting his name in the stands to others mobbing him on the pitch, Rele is receiving love with his shirts already selling big.
