Bafana Bafana midfielder Sipho Mbule is on his way out of the Premier Soccer League champions Orlando Pirates.
The 28-year-old South Africa international came in as a free agent at the beginning of the season following his exit from Mamelodi Sundowns upon the expiry of his contract. At Bucs, he signed an initial one-year deal with an option to extend; but that has not happened.

Mbule, who made 23 appearances for the Sea Robbers across all competitions, helped them win the MTN8, Carling Knockout, and the South African top-tier title, their first in 14 years.
Nevertheless, despite a great start to the season, the versatile creative player struggled for game time after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou overlooked him even when Bucs needed his services, especially owing to injuries.
Why was Mbule let go by Pirates?

“The agent of midfielder Sipho Mbule has confirmed that Orlando Pirates did not provide a reason for their decision not to retain the player beyond the expiry of his deal this month,” player’s agent Mike Makaab said as quoted by SABC Sport.
“Makaab explained that clubs are not obligated to provide reasons when deciding against exercising an option clause. Pirates simply chose not to trigger the extension before the deadline,” they added.
Ex-Kaizer Chiefs winger has explained why Amakhosi should give the experienced star a chance. “I still believe Sipho Mbule is one of the best talents in the country and deserves another opportunity to showcase his full potential. If Kaizer Chiefs decide to sign him, I think he would fit in very well there,” he told Soccer Laduma.

“He needs a coach who understands him and can get the best out of him. He also needs quality players around him. If you have a strong goalkeeper, solid centre-backs, midfielders who are comfortable on the ball and attackers who can make the right runs, then you will see the best of Sipho Mbule.”
