Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos believes it is now time for Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng to leave the Premier Soccer League.
The 21-year-old has been a factor for the Sea Robbers since making his debut late in the 2022/23 season under the then-coach Jose Riveiro. Last season, the versatile attacker played 36 games for the Sea Robbers across all competitions with a return of 11 goals and nine assists.
Mofokeng is now part of the Bafana Bafana World Cup squad that will represent Africa alongside Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Ivory Coast, South Africa, Ghana, Cape Verde, (and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Despite his exploits in Mzansi, Broos has explained why Mofokeng is not yet there, need to move abroad and reasons why he should be protected at all costs.

“I’m convinced that he’s not yet on his highest level, he needs some things more, and I hope for him that he will have a transfer now and go to the bigger competition and become even a better player than he is now,” Broos said in his presser with the media.
“I don’t think we have to put too much pressure on his shoulders; he’s still a young man. We have to protect him even when he should have performances that we expect from him. I don’t think he’s ready for that, but with the qualities, with how good he is, he can help us a lot in the World Cup. But again, don’t put too much pressure on his shoulders.
“He’s not ready for that, not yet. He can become a very important player for Bafana Bafana but it’s still too soon to put that pressure or weight on him.

“I also have to protect him that he’s not burnt when he comes back from the World Cup. And that everyone starts to doubt him. I know he needs more power and experience on that level but with the qualities he has, he will achieve [what’s expected of him],” Broos concluded.
