Oswin Appollis: Agent reveals how Orlando Pirates beat Kaizer Chiefs to Bafana star

Published on by

Former Bafana Bafana star Lance Davids, who is now a player agent, has shed light on how Orlando Pirates beat Kaizer Chiefs to the signing of Oswin Appollis.

Appollis joined Pirates ahead of this season from Polokwane City and has been a revelation at the club with three goals and five assists so far.

The winger was heavily linked to Chiefs last year and it was believed that the Glamour Boys had reignited their interest this year but it is Pirates who won the player’s signature.

How did Chiefs lose out on Appollis?

“Chiefs tried, but again, we are not involved in those things. Club-to-club negotiations don’t concern us as agents,” Davids said on Behind the Boot podcast.

“If I speak to you and you’re Club A, and I’m Club B, and you don’t want to sell to me, there’s nothing I can do as an agent.”

Davids further revealed that it was not just the Soweto giants interested in Appollis as there were more enquiries from at home and abroad.

Who else was interested in the winger?

“Sundowns were also interested, Esperance were also interested,” he added. “There are many deals around the world that were hijacked. Well done to Orlando Pirates.”

Appollis is among the new players who have contributed to Pirates’ great run that has seen them win the MTN8, reach the Carling Knockout final while they are just three points behind PSL leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and with two games in hand over the Brazilians.

Appollis rose to prominence during his two years at Polokwane City where he managed nine goals and six assists in 59 games.
