Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are set for another rivalry across all competitions in the 2025/26 season.
The Sea Robbers are expected to give another push for the elusive Premier Soccer League title and domestic competitions like MTN8, Nedbank Cup and Carling Knockout. After reaching the semi-final, the Buccaneers might push for the Caf Champions League crown.
Amakhosi are taking part in the aforementioned domestic competitions apart from the MTN8, following their ninth-place finish in the league. However, they will be taking part in the Caf Confederation Cup. It explains why both teams need to strengthen their squads in order to be competitive in all competitions.
Quality and depth will be vital for the Soweto giants; among the players who have been linked to the clubs are Yanela Mbuthuma.
Richards Bay confirm contract extension for Chiefs & Pirates target
The 23-year-old Mbuthuma is among the five players who have been retained by Richards Bay. Mbuthuma scored six goals in the 27 games played across all competitions, with two assist in the process.
It is a double blessing for Mbuthuma as he has also been included in Bafana Bafana's preliminary squad for the forthcoming international friendly games against Tanzania and Mozambique, respectively.
“The team will report for camp in Johannesburg on Sunday, 1 June 2025, and then travel to Polokwane on the same day. Mamelodi Sundowns players were not selected as they will be participating in the FIFA Club World Cup to be played in the United States of America from 14 June to 13 July 2025,” Safa confirmed.
