Pirates’ injury woes continue ahead of Stellenbosch clash

Published on by

Orlando Pirates are in a tough spot. After a winless start to their Betway Premiership campaign, they head into Wednesday's clash with Stellenbosch FC facing a significant challenge: a growing list of injuries to key players.

The absence of defensive stalwarts Nkosinathi Sibisi and Makhehleni Makhaula is a major blow, but it also presents a fascinating test for new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou and the rest of the squad.

The two back-to-back league losses to Sekhukhune United and Marumo Gallants have put the team under pressure, but the recent 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 provided a vital morale boost.

That performance showed a glimpse of what the team is capable of, even against top-tier opposition. Now, the challenge is to replicate that effort and turn it into a league win.

But the task won’t be easy. The injury woes don’t stop with Sibisi and Makhaula. The team is also still without Thabiso Sesane and Selaelo Rasebotja, who are both on the road to recovery.

And the mystery surrounding Olisa Ndah’s status continues to linger, with no official update on his return. This situation forces Ouaddou to rely on his squad depth and trust the players who are ready to step up.

The club has expressed confidence in its reserves, specifically mentioning Sihle Nduliand Lebone Seema as players who have filled the void admirably. This match isn't just about three points; it's about validating that confidence. It’s a chance for the unheralded players to show they can be relied on when the big names are out.

For Pirates, this is more than just a game; it's a test of resilience. Can they overcome adversity and secure a much-needed victory? For Stellenbosch, who are also looking for their first league win, it’s a golden opportunity.

The match at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night promises to be a tense affair, with both teams desperate to prove their worth.
