Orlando Pirates are in the market for a new coach to take over from Jose Riveiro who has since taken over the reigns at Al Ahly.
During his time at Bucs, the Spaniard won three trophies in three seasons and finished second in the Premier Soccer League for three consecutive editions. Last season, the Soweto giants narrowly missed making the Caf Champions League final after a 3-2 aggregate loss against eventual champions Pyramids.
So far, the Sea Robbers have not confirmed the tactician who will take over ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. Former Bucs midfielder Mpho Makola has since revealed two coaches he feels have what it takes to ensure Pirates continue to deliver.
He believes the duo has enough experience to ensure nothing goes wrong and that the team will hit greater heights under their guidance.
Who are the two coaches who can take over from Riveiro?

“The best two options are Rulani [Mokwena] and Pitso [Mosimane]. For me, it’s clear and obvious. They are the best. Whoever is coming has a big task at hand. As a matter of fact, the team needs a tried and tested candidate,” he said as quoted by FARPost.
“The previous coach [Riveiro] won key titles for the team but couldn’t win the league title. It has been elusive for a long time. So the new coach must be someone with fresh and unique ideas to win the league title. Coach Rulani knows the system very well, considering that he has been there before. It’s an added advantage, and coach Pitso is tried and tested both locally and on the continent.
“Those are the undoubted and straightforward candidates for the team’s job. It’s the league title that is needed and missed at Orlando Pirates,” Makola concluded.
Pirates have since, reportedly, contacted Mokwena ahead of the new campaign.
