Ouaddou thanks Pitso for giving Pirates star chance: ‘He is the future of Mzansi’

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou is happy that his defender Lebone Seema is part of the Bafana Bafana team for the forthcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Coach Pitso Mosimane’s first task, since taking over from the retired Hugo Broos, will be to guide the team past Guinea on September 26 at home before playing Eritrea away four days later.

This will be Seema’s first involvement with South Africa, which is a reward for hard work and consistency. The 23-year-old was critical as his team ended their 14-year-drought to win the Premier Soccer League last season. The Sea Robbers further won the MTN8 for the fourth time in a row, as well as the Carling Knockout.

Ouaddou insists Seema is the future of South Africa and his inclusion in the national team is fully deserved.

“First of all, I really congratulate him and all the other members of the team who’ve been called to the national team. I thank Pitso for calling him; it means that he has been following his work since last season. He’s the future of South Africa. We have such talent in that position in South Africa,” Ouaddou said in a presser.

“I hope this call will give him the confidence to continue to work, to grow, but I’m not surprised he’s somebody that has a good mentality. Professional, coachable; it’s very important for me because to improve you need to be coachable and you need to be able to understand and to listen. 

“He started to know me now. Sometimes I can be hard with him and last season I was really hard with him, but for his good, for his performance,” he added.

What is Seema bringing to Bafana Bafana?

According to Ouaddou, Seema will be vital in build-ups, especially from the back.

“We spoke a lot about the quality of his passes, the alternation of short passes, long passes, the duels, and of course, as you said, he has a lot of progression. I’m really, really happy, and our technical staff and the club are very happy about this call-up. 

“I hope he is going to continue and to bring us the experience from the national team. Again, thanks to Pitso for seeing his qualities,” Ouaddou concluded.
