Pirates’ slayers now keen on upsetting Sundowns in CKO final

Premier Soccer League newbies Magesi FC have been a surprise package in the 2024/25 edition of the Carling Knockout.

They started with a shock win over Orlando Pirates in the Round of 16 before eliminating TS Galaxy in the quarter-final. Last weekend, they claimed a 1-0 win against Richards Bay to get into their first-ever major final.

Dikwena tsa Meetse will now play Mamelodi Sundowns in the final that will be played at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein on Saturday, November 23.

Coach Clinton Larsen insists playing Masandawana in the final does not worry him because he is there to win it. The former Orlando Pirates player has further stated his players are ready for the task.

‘Magesi will try to continue surprising people'

“You don't go to a final to lose, you go to a final to win it, and that's our aim,” the 53-year-old tactician told SNL24.

“Regardless of who your opponent is, you want to win. Losers are never remembered, only winners are remembered.

“We will try to continue surprising people. I won't single anyone out. All our players have played crucial roles in our success—Elvis Chipezeze, Deolin Mekoa, Samuel Darpoh, [Tshepo] Kakora, and [Wonderboy] Makhubu are just a few top performers in the team.

“We just need to play well to make history. We always expected a difficult final, no matter who we play. There are no easy games in the Betway Premiership. Being the underdogs means all the pressure rests on Sundowns in the final, making them the favorites.

“Our path has been the most challenging. We played three away games: against [Orlando] Pirates, TS Galaxy, and this weekend's match against Richards Bay.”

Sundowns will be aiming at winning the competition after elimination from MTN8 in the semi-final by Stellenbosch.
