Orlando Pirates youngster Relebohile Mofokeng has received another accolade after being crowned the Sports Personality of the Year at the Gauteng Sports Awards.

Mofokeng has had a wonderful year that has yielded an MTN8 crown as well as the Nedbank Cup while scoring in both finals.

The 20-year-old has similarly continued to sparkle in the league and has four goals and five assists in 15 games across all competitions this season, having become an integral part of coach Jose Riveiro’s team.

Mofokeng’s great club form has also earned him call-ups to the Bafana Bafana squad where coach Hugo Broos has been integrating him into the squad slowly.

Rele has enjoyed a meteoric rise

The Sharpeville-born winger started his journey at SAFA-Transnet School of Excellence where he was scouted by Pirates and it was not long before the Buccaneers snapped him up, joining their youth setup ahead of the 2022-23 season.

He made an immediate impact in the DStv Diski Challenge and just months after his debut in the PSL Reserve League, he was promoted to the senior team at the back end of the 2022-23 season.

Mofokeng is currently in Algeria with his Pirates team-mates ahead of their CAF Champions League group stage opener against CR Belouizdad on Tuesday.
