Mofokeng advised about overseas move: ‘This is the right time’

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger, Mandla Masango, has offered some sage advice to Orlando Pirates' rising star, Relebohile Mofokeng

The 20-year-old has been a revelation for the Buccaneers, consistently impressing despite his tender age.

Mofokeng has earned a regular spot in Jose Riveiro's starting lineup, with the coach frequently praising his readiness.

Masango believes that now is the ideal time for Mofokeng to make a move to Europe. He suggests that adapting to a new league while young is more advantageous than attempting it later in one's career.

Masango also advises Mofokeng to prioritize opportunities over league prestige. He recommends targeting clubs where he'll have ample game time, rather than aiming for the biggest leagues right away.

‘HE MUSTN’T GO TO CHELSEA, MAN CITY OR BARCELONA’

“I even say, even last season when I first saw a glimpse of him, l was like, ‘This is overseas material. You can tell from the word go,” said Masango on MSW.

“You don't need to second-guess. Everything he does is so effortless. In my opinion, I think it's the right time for him to go, because he's young, he needs time to adapt. If you're young, you can easily adapt

“When you go when you're older, it's difficult to adapt, because you get into a team where already they have their own Rele, who is doing incredibly well and you need to get that player out of the team.

“If the team keeps on winning, you won't have that time to adapt and you become frustrated.

“I think two leagues [would suit him best], in my opinion, for now. He doesn't have to go to Chelsea, Man City or Barcelona, because his game time would be limited.

“I would prefer for him to go to Holland. There, the style of play would suit him because it's more technical, they play 100 percent football. Belgium also, I think there he can excel as well. Those two leagues are good for players from SA.”
