Orlando Pirates legend Happy Jele is convinced Bucs have what it takes to win the 2024/25 Premier Soccer League crown.
The last time the Buccaneers won the South African championship was in the 2011/12 edition. In the last two seasons, the Soweto giants have finished in the second position, behind Mamelodi Sundowns who have won seven titles in a row.
This season, Pirates have shown massive signs of improvement; they have won seven and lost one of their eight PSL matches played.
It explains why the 37-year-old former defender is convinced Orlando Pirates can stop Masandawana from winning their eighth crown. He argues coach Jose Riveiro-led team just needs consistency to deliver.
Pirates can take the PSL trophy easily
“I think obviously Pirates, they want to win the Betway Premiership. Obviously, that’s their first priority I know for sure, and with the current performance that they put in,” Jele told iDiski Times.
“The league I believe they can take it. I also say I think it’s the only team that can compete with Sundowns. They’ve shown the way they have played. It is proven, it’s just about making sure they last in that marathon.
“Be consistent because being consistent is very difficult. But the way they’ve started in seven games, no loss, it’s a great start. If they can keep it that way they can take the trophy easily,” he concluded.
Bucs' are currently locked in the Caf Champions League race; their next Premier Soccer League will be on December 17 against Sekhukhune United.
