Pirates warned about ‘biggest shock’ ahead of Orbit clash

Published on by

After a much-needed win against Stellenbosch FC, Orlando Pirates now face a tricky encounter against Orbit College FC.

The Buccaneers have been inconsistent so far, mixing a strong MTN8 performance with two disappointing league defeats. The game against Orbit College, a classic “David vs. Goliath” matchup, presents a new kind of challenge.

The newly promoted side is being treated as a potential “banana skin” — a term used to describe a seemingly easy opponent that could cause a major upset.

For Pirates, this match is more than just a formality; it's a chance to show they have truly turned a corner. A win would build momentum, but another loss would raise serious questions about their ability to perform consistently.

ORBIT’S HARD WORK GOT THEM HERE

“Now that Pirates have eliminated (Mamelodi) Sundowns from the MTN8, people assume Orbit will be a walk in the park. But let me tell you, Orbit are in the league alongside Pirates for a reason. It’s their hard work that got them there,” Naughty Mokoena told KickOff.

“In the Betway Premiership, no team should be underestimated. Every team has earned its spot on merit. If Pirates take them lightly, they could face the biggest shock of their lives.

“Having home ground advantage doesn't guarantee victory. To win, you still need to put in the effort.

“The game against Orbit is not guaranteed three points for Pirates. We’ve seen many upsets in our football, particularly here, as Orbit players have been dreaming about matches like this. They will want to prove a point.

“Facing such teams right after playing a major game against Sundowns is very risky. Playing against Pirates is big motivation for them. They could surprise you. Looking at where both teams sit on the log table tells you the whole story.”
