Pitso Mosimane has made it clear he will not apply for the vacant Kaizer Chiefs head coach role, despite being one of the most decorated and sought-after coaches currently unattached.
Amakhosi fans have been calling for the club’s hierarchy to appoint Mosimane, viewing him as the ideal candidate to take on one of the most demanding yet prestigious jobs in South African football. Chiefs parted ways with Nasreddine Nabi almost three months ago, leaving assistants Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze to steer the team through the remainder of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.
But Mosimane, a three-time CAF Champions League winner and former Al Ahly boss, insists his track record means clubs should approach him directly rather than expect him to submit an application.
“At the point I am, I don’t apply for jobs and that’s not being egoistic. It’s about the plan and you must show me the plan,” he told Game On with Thabiso Mosia on Radio 2000.
Global Interest in Mosimane
The 61-year-old revealed he is regularly approached by clubs across Africa and the Gulf region, reinforcing his status as one of the most in-demand coaches on the market.
“Almost every second week, there’s a team that’s available and asks if we can work together. You can’t tell me that in Africa, there’s no team I can’t coach and even in the Gulf region I do have options.”
Possible Return to South Africa
While speculation continues about his next destination, Mosimane has not ruled out returning to the Betway Premiership.
“I can’t say I will never coach again at home. I will coach any team in the country that shows me why I need to come here and what you would bring to the table.”
Long-Term Vision
The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach emphasized the importance of long-term planning, citing his own success with extended projects.
“I was at Sundowns for eight years and SuperSport United for six years, and you must have a plan. It’s not about today or tomorrow, it takes time.”
