PSL Roundup: Hunt & Martin humbled as Sekhukhune go second

Published on by Willis Sob

Five Premier Soccer League matches were played in several venues across the country on Saturday.

The highlight of it was at the FNB Stadium where Kaizer Chiefs hosted the Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns. The latter won the game albeit controversially, to collect their third straight win in the top tier

Here is a roundup of the other matches played on Saturday.

Sekhukhune United 2-0 Golden Arrows

Babina Noko went second on the table after a win over their visitors at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Arrows had fallen by a solitary goal against Magesi in their previous fixture and needed a positive outcome.

However, goals from Tshibwabwa Yamba and Mcedi Vandala were enough to send Sekhukhune second with seven points and drop Arrows to fifth with six.

Cape Town City 1-0 SuperSport United

Coach Gavin Hunt has every reason to start worrying about his job after going down by a solitary goal against the Citizens.

Prior to the Saturday meeting, the Swanky Boys had managed a loss, draw, and win from the initial three games.

Prince Tijiueza scored the only goal to give City their first win of the season, lifting them to 10th on the table. The Swanky Boys are a position lower.

Marumo Gallants 1-0 AmaZulu

A third-minute strike by Daniel Msendami at the Free State Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein was enough for Gallants to get their maiden win this season after three back-to-back losses.

However, the loss will not be welcomed by coach Franco Pablo Martin who has now lost all four games played already. Will he be the first tactician to be fired?

Usuthu are now at the bottom while Gallants are 14th with three points.

Magesi 0-0 Royal AM

The Premier Soccer League newbies secured another vital point after playing to a goalless draw against the Thwihli Thwahla at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Magesi are 11th with four points the same as ninth-placed Royal AM.
