Raja Casablanca star: ‘Sundowns are known continentally’

Published on by Nkosiyabuya Sithole

Raja Casablanca star Noufel Zerhouni has revealed what makes Mamelodi Sundowns a threat ahead of their CAF Champions League group stage clash.

The two teams will face off on Sunday afternoon at Loftus Versfeld, with each looking for their first group stage victory.

Raja lost their first game 2-0 to AS FAR Rabat, then drew 1-1 with Maniema. Meanwhile, Bafana Ba Style drew their first two matches, 0-0 and 1-1, against Maniema and AS FAR Rabat.

Zerhouni believes Masandawana are powerful, particularly when playing in front of their home crowd in Pretoria.

He says the Tshwane giants are well-known in Africa, having established themselves as regulars in the knockout stages almost every season in the tournament.

RAJA STAR ON WHAT MAKES SUNDOWNS A THREAT

“The opponent is known continentally and has been accustomed to appearing in advanced stages of the Champions League during the last seasons, and in front of its fans it is usually strong and difficult,” said Noufel Zerhouni.

“We are well aware of this. We lost and drew and we no longer have any margin for error, so it is an important match for us in the group's calculations.

“It is difficult to talk about a team's chances or fortunes in this type of match. The group results leave the field open to all calculations.

“What matters to us is to return to Morocco with a result that keeps our chances alive because after that we have three matches at home.”
