Nedbank Cup win to spur Kaizer Chiefs to more trophies – Brandon Petersen

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen believes the Nedbank Cup win of last season has brought back belief that they can now challenge for trophies consistently.

Petersen was in goal as Chiefs beat bitter rivals Orlando Pirates 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup final in May with the win ending their 10-year wait for a trophy while earning them a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

Chiefs are seeking to build onto it after a disappointing league run that saw them finish ninth with six new signings confirmed and after beginning pre-season training in the Netherlands on Saturday, the goalkeeper feels there is now confidence in the squad that more trophies can arrive at Naturena.

“Lifting a trophy was something major and a silver lining for us and it can be a building block for the season coming because you can see the hunger and determination on players’ faces. We can use it as a stepping stone to go and achieve more trophies,” Petersen said from their base in the Netherlands.

Petersen is also excited by the new players who have been signed by Chiefs as he feels they bring a good blend of youth and experience which will be vital as they challenge domestically and on the continent.

“The younger boys we know most of them and have seen them play and we are excited to see them playing. Exciting signings and looking forward to friendlies and we will get a glimpse of them during the friendly matches. We are excited and they are also excited to put in a display for our supporters,” added Petersen.

Petersen is also looking forward to their friendly matches against Dutch sides SBV Vitesse Arnhem (July 8), FC Utrecht (July 11), NEC Nijmegen (July 12), PEC Zwolle (15) and FC Twente Enschede on July 16.
