Mamelodi Sundowns Transfers: Rating every Masandawana signing in 2026-27

The PSL transfer window officially closed on Monday, September 21 but there were no major deadline day deals as most teams had done their business early.

Mamelodi Sundowns were among those doing their business late with the signing of defender Wandile Dube from AmaZulu FC confirmed on Tuesday.

Sundowns brought in seven players and unlike before, they also exploited the free agent market, as three players came without a transfer fee.

So, did Masandawana get value based on the players’ qualities and their contributions so far this season?

Antonio van Wyk

The former Stellenbosch FC forward arrived from Austrian side SV Ried and has already taken to life at Sundowns like fish to water with four goals and one assist in eight games.

He has also won a trophy already after Sundowns’ African-Asian-Pacific Cup win over Al Ahli and he looks to be the real deal.

Cassius Mailula

Another one who has impressed already, the former Sundowns favourite re-joined the club after his contract with FC Toronto was terminated, and he looks reborn as he has bagged four goals in 11 games, all of them scored in his first six games, which has earned him a Bafana Bafana call-up.

Siyanda Ndlovu

The former Golden Arrows stalwart is still adjusting to life at Sundowns but the early signs suggest he will be a success if coach Miguel Cardoso finds his best position. He has two goals and one assist in 10 games so far but his movement in and around the box is a joy to watch.

Thabang Matuludi

The former Polokwane City right-back was signed in the wake of Khuliso Mudau;s injury and thrust into the spotlight immediately, playing against Al Ahli and had a good performance including getting an assist.

He has the qualities and experience to succeed but the problem is how often he will play as Sundowns have five right-backs on their books.

Dean van Rooyen

The right-back was signed as a free agent after leaving Pirates and is yet to play but following his struggles with the Buccaneers, it is a big gamble for Sundowns.

Besides, with five right-backs, opportunities will be limited for Deano van Rooyen, even if Khuliso Mudau will miss nearly the whole season due to injury.

Thabo Cele

Another free agent, the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder joined as cover for the deceased Jayden Adams and is yet to play but appears to be another gamble given how his stock had fallen at Naturena.

With Bathusi Aubaas also struggling for gametime, it is hard to see how Cele will dislodge the established order but having an extra body will help coach Miguel Cardoso.

Wandile Dube

The latest to land at Chloorkop, the young central defender has all the qualities to be a major success after shining at AmaZulu but the question is whether he will get enough gametime to showcase his potential.
