Rayners shares secrets to his successful Sundowns start

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners has credited the camaraderie within the club for his great form in front of goal.

Rayners is among players who joined Sundowns before the start of this season, alongside Arthur Sales, Kobamelo Kodisang and Kegan Johannes, but he has outshone his colleagues so far with 11 goals in 14 games.

The striker was on target on Sunday as the Brazilians secured their first win the CAF Champions League group stage, making it five straight games in which he has scored, and the former Stellenbosch FC forward admits the good working environment at Chloorkop has played a large part in his quick adaptation.

“For me, it has always been about hard work, focus and the coaches always believe in me and support from the technical team,” he told Times Live.

Why is Rayners succeeding at Downs?

“It was easy to come and fit in, it is a good environment. I am happy to be here and that is why I am doing so good.

“Sometimes the coach changes a bit but I am also happy for him to believe in me. You score goals, help the team win games so I am proud of myself and the team.”

Rayners will look to extend his hot streak in front of goal on Wednesday when Sundowns take on his former team Stellenbosch at the Cape Town Stadium as they look to maintain their stay at the top of the table.

Sundowns will be back to league action after back-to-back Champions League matches in what will be the first PSL test for new coach Miguel Cardoso.
