SuperSport United will host Orlando Pirates in the Premier Soccer League game that will be staged at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.
While Pirates have nothing to lose, having secured the second position for the third time in a row, the Swanky Boys need a win to stand a chance of avoiding relegation/promotion playoffs. They have managed to secure 26 points from 25 games, which puts them 14th in the log, a position higher than Cape Town City.
It explains why the club's interim coach, Andre Arendse, is determined to help the Swanky Boys secure maximum points against the Sea Robbers. He argues that Jose Riveiro's exit has weakened Bucs, and they will be aiming to take full advantage of the situation.
A win will be huge for SuperSport United
The former South Africa international insists his team played well in their recent 2-1 loss against Stellenbosch, and they will be aiming to keep the momentum shown, especially in the latter stages of the game.
“I am going into this game [against Pirates] a lot more positive, just only based on that second half against Stellenbosch, that second half alone could easily have been 3-2 or 4-2 in our favour if it wasn’t for their goalkeeper, Oscarine [Masuluke], who had a good game, he saved them,” Arendse said in his pre-match interview.
“It’s a positive for us that Pirates look a bit unstable [after Riveiro’s exit], but you’re still coming up against a really quality side. We are going to have to work for what we want to get out of that particular game. We can’t afford to lose [it], that’s the bottom line, and a win would be huge for us,” he concluded.
