Revenge time? Pirates learn their Caf Champions League opponent

The Sea Robbers are aiming at having a better outing this time around after an early exit in the last edition.

Orlando Pirates have a chance to avenge against Jwaneng Galaxy when the two teams meet in the second preliminary round of the Caf Champions League.

The two teams met last season in the same stage, and the Motswana outfit advanced after winning the penalty shootout following a 1-1 aggregate draw.

Galaxy advanced to the group stage but collected seven points to finish third to get eliminated, as Pirates returned home to concentrate on domestic competitions.

Will Pirates avenge the loss?

On Friday, the Buccaneers sealed their place in the second round of the prestigious club competition after eliminating Malagasy outfit CS Disciples.

After falling by a solitary goal against Namibian side African Stars Soccer Club in the first leg of the first preliminary round, Galaxy fought hard to win the second leg at home by a solitary goal courtesy of Omaatla Kebatho's second-half strike.

The home team went on to win the shootout 6-5 to set a date with Bucs.

When will Pirates play Jwaneng Galaxy?

The Soweto giants will be away in the first leg of the meeting to be played between September 13 and 15 with the second one coming a week later.

Bucs coach Jose Riveiro is optimistic his team will deliver against their Southern Africa opponent, “If Jwaneng is the next opponent in this competition, there is going to be a component of having the opportunity of playing against them again,” he said after seeing his side beat Disciples on Friday.

“We didn’t have a good time against them last time, they are a tough opponent and there is going to be extra motivation for all of us.

“They are very strong at home, this competition is attractive to whoever is coming and for us our responsibility and commitment is to do everything to reach the group stage and is something I would really like to experience.”
