Ronwen Williams, the standout goalkeeper for Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana, has enjoyed a phenomenal year filled with accolades and global recognition. Despite his impressive performances, he narrowly missed out on a nomination for the FIFPRO World 11.
Williams' exceptional performances in the Africa Cup of Nations earned him the Golden Glove award as he led Bafana Bafana to a third-place finish.
He also clinched the PSL Footballer of the Season and Goalkeeper of the Season awards for his outstanding contributions to Sundowns' successful 2023/24 campaign.
His impressive form extended to the African Football League, where he secured the Golden Glove award as Sundowns lifted the continental trophy.
Williams' remarkable year earned him a nomination for the prestigious Yashin Trophy, awarded by France Football.
Although he ultimately finished ninth, the nomination itself was a significant achievement.
Despite his exceptional year, Williams was not included in the FIFPRO World 11 nominees. The three goalkeepers shortlisted for the award were Emiliano Martinez, Manuel Neuer, and Ederson.
