The youthful tactician is ready to help the Red Castle back to the top after getting his trusted men for the job

Wydad Athletic Club coach Rulani Mokwena is working harder to ensure he succeeds in his bid to help the team get back to the top of Moroccan football as well as the continent.

Last season, the Red Castle finished sixth on the table meaning they will not take part in any Caf competitions. However, by virtue of winning the 2021/22 Caf Champions League title, the North Africans have been guaranteed a place in the expanded 2025 Fifa Club World Cup to be played in the United States.

It explains why he is getting his own technical team to ensure they deliver as expected across all competitions.

Who has Mokwena recruited?

The 37-year-old recently added Chippa United's goalkeeper trainer Sean Louw in his team to help sharpen the club's custodians.

Louw helped Nigeria international Stanley Nwabali reach greater heights last season, including playing in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations where he helped the Super Eagles reach the final but ended up losing to hosts Ivory Coast.

“As tough as it is to make a decision of this magnitude, l have decided to spread my wings and fly as high as I can, for now,” he said in his exit statement.

“Some might say I’m too young and I’m not ready for such a challenge, but one thing I have learned in life is that if you’re good enough, you’re old enough.

“I was always taught to leave a place in a better state than you found it. and I can confidently say that, finally, our best was.”

At Wydad AC, Louw joins Allan Freese who is now the club's Technical Director. Freese mentored Mokwena during his early days in coaching at Platinum Stars, and is one of the respected figures in Mzansi.

Another figure that has been introduced in the team is 34-year-old Sinethemba Badela who has been working as Sundowns reserve teams coach. He is set to be one of the assistants for Mokwena at the Red Castle.

Sibusiso Mahlangu comes in as the team's fitness trainer while Sibusiso Makitla will be the performance analyst.
