Saudi Club Al Hazem Leading Race to sign Bafana Bafana Star

Saudi Pro League side Al Hazem are reportedly leading the race to sign Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana, who is expected to leave his current club, Esperance Sportive de Tunis, according to iDiski Times.

The newly-promoted club, which secured its place in the top-flight via the playoffs, is one of several teams that have made an offer for the South African international. However, Al Hazem’s bid is said to be the most promising.

Mokwana, who has been a standout player for the senior national team, is said to have indicated his intention to have more playing time next season. 

This desire is driven by his ambition to secure his place in the Bafana Bafana squad ahead of two major tournaments: the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 FIFA World Cup. 

A move to the Saudi Pro League, which has attracted a host of high-profile players and managers in recent years, would provide the competitive platform he is seeking.

While several clubs have expressed interest in the talented winger, according to the report, Al Hazem's aggressive pursuit puts them in a strong position. 

The club's eagerness to secure his services highlights their ambition to build a competitive squad capable of surviving and thriving in the top tier. For Mokwana, this move would not only offer a new challenge but also a significant step up in his club career.

WILL MOKWANA JOIN NKOTA IN SAUDI?

Should the transfer be finalised, Mokwana would join a growing list of South African players making their mark in the Middle East. 

Notably, Mohau Nkota recently moved from Orlando Pirates to Al-Ettifaq, another Saudi club that is reportedly also interested in securing the services of rising star Relebohile Mofokeng. 

This trend suggests that Saudi clubs are increasingly turning their attention to South African talent, recognising the quality and potential that local players possess.

For Bafana Bafana, Mokwana’s potential move to a high-profile league is seen as a positive development.
