Bafana Bafana defender Siyabonga Ngezana could be on his way out of Romanian club FCSB after an English and Italian club met his asking price.
Ngezana joined FCSB at the start of the 2023-24 season and won the league title as well as the cup, being named Defender of the Season, and has continued his great form this term when his club are also playing in the Europa League.
Those good performances have now, according to Romanian outlet Digi Sport, attracted the interest of English League One side Birmingham City and Italian side Lecce who are reported to be ready to meet his €5 million (R96 million) valuation.
Chiefs could reap big from Ngezana
If the fee is paid, it would leave FCSB president Gigi Becali with no choice but to release the South African international.
One team hoping that the transfer goes through soon are Kaizer Chiefs who would be in line to receive part of the transfer fee.
Ngezana joined FCSB from Chiefs and Amakhosi inserted a sell-on clause of 10 per cent, meaning they could pocket R9.6 million.
Will defender move in January?
The defender has made 22 appearances across all competitions this season and was also integral to South Africa’s qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Of the two clubs interested in Ngezana, Birmingham are top of League One as they push for promotion back to the Championships while Lecce are in the relegation zone in Serie A.
However, whether the player wants to move now is something that is still not known.
