Cape Town City youngster Emile Witbooi is set for a major career boost after receiving an invitation for trials at English Premier League club Chelsea.
Witbooi has been a revelation for both South Africa and Cape Town and his massive talent has now attracted scouts of the Premier League giants who are set to assess him for a month before deciding if he is good enough for a deal.
The 16-year-old was instrumental in South Africa’s win at the COSAFA U20 tournament which sealed their place at the upcoming U20 Africa Cup of Nations last month.
This was after being named Player of the Tournament and Midfielder of the Tournament at the SAFA U15 inter-provincial tournament, as well as starring in the U19 Bayhill Premier Cup in Cape Town, where he was named Player of the Tournament.
How has Witbooi performed in the DDC?
Witbooi has been among the star players for Cape Town City in the DStv Diski Challenge where the Citizens, who are third on the table, are the highest scorers in the tournament, after managing 29 goals from eight matches, seven more than the second-best attack, which is Stellenbosch.
He joined Cape Town from the School of Excellence in January this year and received his maiden national team call-up early last year, going on to turn out for South Africa U15 at the UEFA U16 International Development Tournament.
Witbooi will hope to impress during the month-long trials at Chelsea to seal a major move to Europe.
