Soweto Derby: Here is one Chiefs player who can make Pirates’ squad

Published on by

Thousands of football lovers in South Africa will be at the FNB Stadium this weekend to cheer their favourite team in the Soweto derby.

Kaizer Chiefs host their traditional rivals, Orlando Pirates, hoping for nothing less than a win, especially after the recent losses that have seen them get eliminated from the Nedbank Cup and CAF Confederation Cup. On Tuesday, they also fell 2-1 in the league against Stellenbosch in the Premier Soccer League.

As a matter of fact, the Buccaneers have beaten the Glamour Boys in the last four league meetings. The last Soweto derby was in the Nedbank Cup final that Amakhosi won 2-1.

A win for Pirates this weekend will increase the gap between the two sides to 11 points while victory for the hosts will reduce it to five. This underlines the importance of the fixture.

ONE Chiefs player to make Pirates XI?

The Sea Robbers are also not doing that well if the last two games are anything to put into consideration. After falling 2-1 against the defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns, Abdeslam Ouaddou’s men were eliminated from the Nedbank Cup by Casric Stars.

“I’ll have [Lebohang] Maboe [if I were to pick a player from Chiefs],” former Bucs midfielder Benedict Vilakazi said recently as quoted by FARPost.

“I think he is good in that central midfield. He can control that midfield. He does not lose the ball, and he always comes into the spaces. You feel more comfortable having him in the central midfield. He is a player I would have. And the rest, I am okay, not in a bad way. I can only have this one.

“He’s playing in a defensive role, and he can pass the ball. He can play, and that’s one thing I like about him. When he gets the ball from defence, he is going to have options. He makes things simple,” Tso concluded.
