Stellenbosch FC took a decisive step toward the MTN8 final with a 2-0 first-leg win over Sekhukhune United.
Playing on a muddy pitch at Danie Craven Stadium, the home side got goals from Devin Titus and Godswill Enyinnaya, giving them a strong advantage.
The victory was a needed confidence boost for Stellenbosch, who had been struggling in the league with a recent loss and a draw. Sekhukhune, by contrast, entered the match in perfect form with three wins in a row. Both coaches made key changes to their starting lineups.

The match started with an early injury for Stellenbosch, as Ashley Cupido was replaced by Lesiba Nku in the fifth minute.

Despite the setback, the home side started aggressively. After a cautious beginning, the first real chance came in the 15th minute when Stellenbosch keeper Sage Stephens saved a long-range shot.
The breakthrough came for Stellenbosch in the 22nd minute when Enyinnaya headed in a corner. They doubled their lead on a swift counter-attack in the 32nd minute, with Nku setting up Titus for the second goal.
While Sekhukhune made offensive changes in the second half, Stellenbosch continued to dominate the attack, with both Titus and Nku missing chances to extend their lead. The home side’s defense held strong, preserving a valuable clean sheet.
The second and decisive leg will be hosted by Sekhukhune at New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, August 23. The winner will advance to the final.
