‘I made a mistake, I’m sorry!’ Sundowns’ Cardoso to Pirates after landing in hot soup

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has eaten humble pie and apologised to Orlando Pirates over recent comments he made.

The former Esperance coach claimed the Premier Soccer League champions were not received as well as they should have been by a section of their supporters. The utterances welcomed backlash from Bucs fans on social media, attracting the attention of the tactician.

Cardoso confused Milford with Casric Stars, insisting that the former beat Pirates in the Nedbank Cup, which wasn’t a fact since the Sea Robbers fell to the latter.

The 54-year-old was arguing that the PSL newbies were not an easy team despite Masandawana’s 2-0 victory in the midweek outing. On Sunday, he apologised for that after his team’s 2-1 win against Golden Arrows.

“Sometimes people have a tendency to judge because we say something… and unfortunately, last week I made a mistake; I said Orlando Pirates had lost (against Milford). It was a mistake on my side,” he clarified.

“I am sorry; it was not true. But indeed, Milford, they made a fantastic campaign last year.

“So, immediately there was a lot of criticism of me because I made a mistake. I also have a good heart. I am part of a family. I have a huge boy who is a fantastic boy, huge in education, a 24-year-old boy, just about to finish a master’s in engineering. I have a wife, papa and mama, and also, when things become personal, there is a family behind that is affected, and I think that is the respect that people need to have.

“Until where is the border? I have already proved to South Africans that we can do things, beautiful things together; it’s just a matter of letting things flow. Obviously, the direction is not always straight, but we know the sense we want to go to. Love will always unite us as much as the critics can try to tear us apart,” Cardoso added.

The next hurdle for Sundowns will be at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday, against Siwelele FC.
