Sundowns announce departure of two midfielders

Mamelodi Sundowns have officially announced the departure of two midfielders, marking the first confirmed exits from their squad following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

These adjustments signal the beginning of a strategic overhaul for the Brazilians as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.

After another dominant period, the club is now focused on fine-tuning its roster, and these midfield exits are the initial steps in that process.

Lebohang Maboe and Rivaldo Coetzee will be beginning a new chapter elsewhere after ending relationships with the Tshwane giants.

SUNDOWNS’ STATEMENT ON COETZEE & MABOE’S EXITS

“The Yellow Nation thanks Rivaldo Coetzee for eight years as a Sandawana,” the club announced via social media, announcing Coetzee’s exit.

“After winning 14 trophies in his time with the Club and making over 130 appearances, the Mamelodi Sundowns family wishes you all the best in your next chapter.”

Meanwhile, confirming Maboe’s departure, the club stated, “After 7 memorable years, 12 trophies, 183 appearances and that unforgettable league winning hattrick – the Yellow Nation bids farewell to Lebohang Maboe.”

“Masandawana wishes you nothing but success as you enter your next chapter.”

Maboe joined the Brazilians at the start of the 2018/19 season from Maritzburg United [now rebranded as Durban City]. He spent the previous six months on loan at SuperSport United.

He won 12 trophies in 183 appearances he notched up during his spell.

Meanwhile, Coetzee, on the other hand, joined Masandawana in 2017 following a failed move to Celtic Glasgow due to injury. This was after a departure from Ajax Cape Town.

He won 14 trophies in 130 appearances he made in all competitions.
