Sundowns legend on why Mngqithi’s sacking wasn’t surprising

Mamelodi Sundowns legend, Katlego Mashego, has expressed his view that the recent sacking of head coach Manqoba Mngqithi was not an unexpected move by the club's management.

Mngqithi, along with goalkeeper coach Wendell Robinson and assistant coach Romain Folz, was dismissed last week due to the team's poor start to the season.

While acknowledging the desired results, Mashego also pointed to the team's subpar performances.

He believes that the club's trajectory under Mngqithi's leadership was not heading in the right direction.

WHY MASHEGO WASN’T SURPRISED BY MNGQITHI’S SACKING

“Well, based on what I saw from the club and the performances, I don’t want to say the performances were not so good, but there was something different,” Mashego told FARPost.

“I think the management, the board, and the stakeholders saw something [wrong] and needed to change something, as well as the direction.

“We all know Mamelodi Sundowns is a big club; expectations are high. If the team is not performing, there will be a need for changes, so it wasn’t surprising for the coaching changes.”
