Sundowns locks Mokoena out of rumoured Bournemouth move as Mshishi gets new deal

Tebza and veteran South Africa international have been delivering consistently at all levels for the Brazilians.

The 2022/23 Premier Soccer League's Player of the Season Teboho Mokoena has extended his stay at Mamelodi Sundowns until 2029.

Since joining Masandawana from SuperSport United in 2022, the South Africa international has been literally the engine of the team's midfield. His initial deal was set to expire in June 2026, but the 27-year-old had been linked with moves to Egyptian champions Al Ahly as well as Premier League outfit Bournemouth.

Mokoena was demanding a better package owing to his exploits, but South Africans were hesitant to grant him his wish.

However, that has been cleared and it seems Mokoena is happy to give Sundowns his best years in the game.

“We are delighted to confirm that midfielder Teboho Mokoena has signed a contract extension until 2029,” the PSL champions confirmed on Saturday.

Last season, Mokoena played a total of 37 games for Sundowns across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing two assists as the Rulani Mokwena-led outfit went all the way to securing their seventh consecutive PSL title and the inaugural African Football League.

Zwane's deal extended

Veteran midfielder Themba Zwane has also been awarded a one-year extension as confirmed by Masandawana.

The 35-year-old's current deal with the Brazilians had expired, but his form and consistency saw him get a reward.

“We are delighted to announce that our captain Themba Zwane has signed a 1-year extension with The Brazilians!”

In the 2023/24 campaign, ‘Mshishi' played 41 games where he scored two goals and assisted four times.

Masandawana start their domestic season on Sunday when they host Polokwane City in the MTN8 quarter-final.
