Sundowns make major announcement on Wydad-linked Thembinkosi Lorch

Published on by

The curtain has officially fallen on Thembinkosi Lorch's career at Mamelodi Sundowns, with the club confirming his exit after a two-year tenure marked by both promise and uncertainty.

Lorch's two-year spell with the Brazilians was heavily influenced by Mokwena, who was instrumental in bringing the player to Sundowns from Orlando Pirates.

With Mokwena’s exit, Lorch seemed to lose his biggest advocate at the club, eventually leading to a loan spell at Wydad AC for the 2024/25 season.

The 32-year-old's return from Morocco at the end of the campaign did little to quell the rumours about his future. With his main supporter no longer at the club, his position in the team became precarious.

The official announcement of his departure from Sundowns marks the end of a partnership that, while promising, never truly flourished.

While Lorch's time at Sundowns may not have lived up to the hype, he remains a talented with a proven track record. While at Sundowns, he featured in 26 matches, scoring seven goals and providing four assists.

The club’s statement thanked him for his service, acknowledging his contributions. As a free agent, Lorch will now have the opportunity to choose his next destination, where he will be hoping to reignite his career and find a new home where he can be a key player once again.

Meanwhile, following his departure from Sundowns, the former Orlando Pirates star, Lorch is now being heavily linked with a return to Wydad AC.
