Mamelodi Sundowns reject Sekhukhune’s approach for defender

Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly turned down an approach for defender Rushine De Reuck from Sekhukhune United.

De Reuck has turned into a bit-part player at the club with just three appearances in 20 matches this season, having failed to dislodge Grant Kekana, Mothobi Mvala, Mosa Lebusa and Malibongwe Khoza, who are all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Injuries have also hampered his stay at Sundowns and Babi Noko sought to give him an escape route in January.

According to iDiski Times, Sekhukhune sought his availability with the possibility of sealing a six-month loan deal in the midseason transfer window but the PSL champions have turned down the approach.

Why has Sekhukhune’s approach been rejected?

It is not clear why Sundowns rejected the approach but it could be down to the fact that the club just appointed a new coach in Miguel Cardoso, who replaced Manqoba Mngqithi on Tuesday.

The Portuguese will likely want to assess all the players before making a decision on who should be allowed to leave and having arrived in December, it appears that there could be few outgoings in January given the time he will need to fully understand his squad.

Cape Town-born De Reuck arrived at Sundowns in 2021 from Maritzburg United but has not set the stage alight, becoming a squad player under both Rulani Mokwena and Mngqithi.

Sekhukhune were hoping to lure another Sundowns player to their ranks after signing midfielder Sipho Mbule on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day.
