Mamelodi Sundowns have drawn their second consecutive CAF Champions League match, this time against ASFAR in a 1-1 stalemate on Saturday evening.
Despite dominating possession, particularly in the first half, Sundowns struggled to convert their chances. Anas Bach had the first real opportunity for the hosts in the 19th minute, but his shot sailed over the bar.
The South African champions were dealt a blow when Mothobi Mvala was forced off with a knee injury, replaced by Musa Lebusa.
Sundowns were also fortunate to escape a penalty when Aubrey Modiba made a late challenge on Youssef Alfahli.
In the second half, ASFAR increased the pressure, but Ronwen Williams made crucial saves to deny them a goal from a free-kick and open play.
TWO GOALS IN THE SECOND HALF
However, Sundowns took the lead in the 66th minute through Iqraam Rayners.
The joy was short-lived as ASFAR captain Mohammed Rabie Hrimat equalized in the 74th minute.
With this result, Sundowns are second in the group with two points, level with Maniema. ASFAR leads the group with four points.
