The Brazilians have had two bids rejected in a week for their key target
Mamelodi Sundowns look to have suffered a significant blow in their pursuit of Stellenbosch FC midfielder Jayden Adams after his club turned down two offers for him this week.
According to iDiski Times, Sundowns submitted an offer for the midfielder early this week, which was rejected, before another one on Thursday that was also turned down by the Stellies who appear not keen to lose another high-profile player.
It leaves Sundowns in a difficult position as they had targeted the midfielder to add onto their squad having sanctioned the departure of Sipho Mbule who has joined Sekhukhune United on loan.
Will Stellenbosch’s tough stance hold on?
Stellenbosch have been firm over the future of Adams, who is one of coach Steve Barker’s key players, and it looks like it will take a substantial offer from Sundowns to convince them to sell.
The Stellies academy graduate has continued to impress since being integrated into the senior team in 2020, making 109 appearances for the club while scoring six goals, which has earned him a place in the Bafana Bafana squad.
He was part of the national team at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as South Africa finished an impressive third and made his debut as a substitute in the group stages against Namibia.
Adams has been named in Stellenbosch’s squad for the CAF Confederation Cup return leg match against AS Vita set to be played in DR Congo with Barker’s charges carrying a 2-0 lead from the first leg.
